Late General Secretary of the Ceylon Mercantile, Industrial and General Workers Union (CMU) - Bala Tampoe is to be honoured on May Day (May 01) with a road being named in his honour, government sources say.
It is said that the 22nd lane in Colpetty is to be re-named as Bala Tampoe Mawatha.
The re-named road is to be unveiled at 9.30am on May 01 by Labour minister - W.D.J. Seneviratne.
Tampoe, who passed away on September 01, 2014, is said to be the only person in the world who was a Trade Union leader for 66 years.
